Message by His Eminence Makarios, to the Kiambu County Orthodox Mothers’ Union, at the promulgation of their new Charter, 1 September 2013

My beloved Mother’s Union leaders and members,

In mid-2011, the Executive Committee leaders of the Mother’s Union of Kiambu County approached the Vicar General, Fr. Siluanos Mwangi, seeking advice on how to resolve their general regulation problems. The resolution of this meeting was to initiate a joint effort of the office of the Archbishop and that of the Mother’s Union to formulate a charter. With this, the Mother’s Union head officers together with the representative of the office of the Archbishop, Fr. Evangelos Thiani, started formulating a new charter with my blessings.

After a long journey, today the fruits of their colossal labor has been realized. The process of putting together a charter has been laborious and took a lot of time, but the almighty God has helped bring it to conclusion. After carefully looking at the charter I today (1st September 2013) authorize its use. I am filled with joy and appreciation as I look at the first Mother’s Union Charter of its kind being used in the Archdiocese of Kenya, and particularly in Kiambu County where it was formed. I know that this is a humble beginning, and pray that future recommendations and amendments of this living document will only make it better.

A charter for a group like the Mother’s Union of Kiambu County, which is the largest in the country and which holds several projects on their own, is much welcomed. This is to help keep the peace of Christ and the order demanded of us by the Church. The words of St. Paul to the Corinthians reminds us that our God is not the author of disorder but of peace and therefore asks that all things be done decently and in order (1 Corinthians 14:33,40). This charter’s main objective is thus to help your Union avoid confusion, turmoil, and disorder. Therefore, always maintain the peace of Christ in your midst, as you continue propagating for the Gospel of Christ.

I wish to congratulate you all, as you welcome and start using this new charter. May God be with you always, and may the Mother of God, your patron saint, continue interceding for your progress.

With paternal blessings,
Archbishop Makarios Tillyrides of Kenya

About aoc-kenya

The African Orthodox Church of Kenya, though not Autonomous, is by far the largest in Africa, having three local jurisdictions.

These three jurisdictions came through the unanimous decision of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, to divide the ever growing Archdiocese into three jurisdictions.
