To all Clergymen, Assisted Papadhias, Catechists and Workers, Orthodox Archbishopric of Kenya

My spiritual children,
Christ is in our midst!

I am writing this letter to you while still in my knees praying for the many needs of our church and for the many ministries we have founded all over this beautiful country of Kenya. As we continue the Lenten period, I pray that our unceasing prayers bring us great spiritual benefits, as we draw closer to the goal of Lent, the resurrection of Christ.

As we are all aware, temptations and difficulties in our spiritual journeys are food for the soul, calling for our perseverance. It is with this at heart that I wish to inform you that, due to the economic crisis that has befallen our sister churches and at the same time individual well-wishers and organizations that have been financially assisting us, our Archdiocese has found herself in a very difficult financial situation.

It is for this reason that I inform you with a heavy heart that all monthly allowances/salaries shall be stopped for an indefinite period of time.

As of now, I urge you all to pray earnestly, that God will help us overcome our present tribulations, remembering that He promised to be with us always, until the end of this age (Matthew 28:20). As your father and shepherd, I shall not rest until I try all avenues possible to resolve our present situation, so please continue praying for my health, mission and ministry.

Any new developments will be communicated to you in good time.

Your Father in the Lord,
Archbishop Makarios of Kenya

About aoc-kenya

The African Orthodox Church of Kenya, though not Autonomous, is by far the largest in Africa, having three local jurisdictions.

These three jurisdictions came through the unanimous decision of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Alexandria, to divide the ever growing Archdiocese into three jurisdictions.
